Not in a laboratory and not in a policy paper. In flooded paddies in Niger State, alongside the people who will decide whether any of this is worth doing twice.

An integrated climate-smart agriculture and carbon-removal enterprise, turning agricultural residues into high-quality biochar, regenerative soil products, renewable process energy and measurable climate value.

We deploy efficient, low-emission pyrolysis systems that convert rice husks and straw, maize cobs and stalks and other responsibly sourced residues into stable, carbon-rich products. The circular model reduces open-field burning and uncontrolled decomposition while improving soil productivity, strengthening agricultural resilience and creating income across rural value chains.

The problem
is the soil.

Across much of West Africa the constraint on yield is not seed and often not even fertiliser. It is soil that has been cropped for decades without anything being returned to it: acidic, low in organic matter, unable to hold water through a dry spell or hold nutrients through a rain.

Fertiliser applied to soil like that largely washes through. The farmer pays for inputs that leave the field before the crop can use them. Fixing the soil's ability to hold things is the precondition for everything else, and that is what biochar does.

    Founder and Chief Executive

    Doctoral researcher in Sustainable Development at the University of Abuja, with a background in finance, investment management and renewable energy. Has a track record of securing climate financing and has represented organisations at international climate conferences.

    B.Agric and MSc in Soil Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a PhD from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, where she worked on modelling nutrient flows and balances in agroecosystems with the Plant Production Systems Group. On the faculty of ABU's Department of Soil Science since 2002, specialising in soil physics.

    BSc Botany from the University of Maiduguri, a specialist diploma in biological technology from the Nigeria Institute of Science and Technology, an MSc in Land Resources from Bayero University Kano, and a PhD in Geography and Environmental Management from Maiduguri. Research fellow at the Centre for Arid Zone Studies.

    PhD and MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Maiduguri, a first degree in Geology and a postgraduate diploma in environmental management. Fifteen years helping start-ups in northern Nigeria scale, concentrated on eco-innovation, product management and business development.
